Honda has decided to follow in the footsteps of KTM and produce their own factory fitted
dirt bike available on the showroom floor, dubbed the CRF450R Works Edition. The Japa- nese manufacturer has decidedly borrowed some features straight out of the Team Honda HRC race shop, bringing the customer closer to factory than ever before. The new model incorporates a specifically designed cylinder head with factory hand-polished ports, a titanium Yoshimura slip-on muffler and exclusive ECU set- tings. The Throttle Jockey graphics kit and seat cover is derived from the current Team HRC bikes, allowing the rider to look as good as they’ll feel on this brand new machine.
Take a closer look at the head of the engine and you’ll notice a small engraving that spells ‘works edition’, one of the many details that contribute to making this motorcycle a masterpiece. A unique cylinder head fitted with hand-polished, factory ports ensures a better torque feeling from low to mid-range, especially between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm. The custom built Yoshimura slip-on muffler is designed specifically for the CRF450R WE, complete with a a carbon fiber tail caps and a full-on titanium body and pipes.
One of the main advantages of having a world class rider as such as Ken Roczen in your stable or talent
is the research and development that he brings to the table. The launch control has been finely tuned and adjusted since it’s inception just a couple of years ago, but the Works Edition comes standard with special settings influenced by Roczen himself. In addition, the ECU settings are optimized to complement the perfor- mance of the custom Yoshimura exhaust system as well as the cylinder updates.
A 49mm Showa fork with 12 inches of travel is the same as what you’d see on the CRF450R, but the Kashi- ma fork-tube coating is exclusive to the Works Edition and helps to reduce friction and improve handling performance. Developed by Miyaki Company of Japan, Kashima coating is a special treatment for hard- anodized finishes that fills the micro-pores on the surface of hard-anodized aluminum for better lubrication. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a titanium nitride coating on the legs of the forks to enhance suspension feel. On the rear of the bike sits a Pro-Link Showa single shock with 12.3 inches of travel and a titanium nitride coated shock shaft for optimal performance.
The D.I.D LT-X rims have been strengthened for improve durability and feature a special laser- engraved logo that is exclusive to the WE. Complete with a high-performance gold RK Chain, black triple clamps top and bottom, and the complete factory inspired graphics and seat cover -- this bike looks like it belongs on the top step of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross podium. The 2019 Honda CRF450R will be made available at Honda dealers for the price of $11,499.
