That’s one of those things where you can’t get acclimated to it without putting more time
on the bike... Right. I don’t really have any plans to ride until the Springfield Mile on Labor Day, but I may ultimately decide to ride a few others. I had so much fun, now I’m more tempted. Before I rode the Indian, I was riding an XR750 but this thing makes it more fun because it is more competitive. I’m more competitive havin’ a bike that is competitive with today’s field than when I was on the XR. I was having fun on the XR, but it just wasn’t as competitive. So givin’ my age and my rustiness, having something that gives me a better opportunity makes it a lot more fun for me.
You mentioned that you weren’t planning on racing anything else until the next Spring-
field Mile, but your home race (OKC) is next on the calendar. How do you feel about that
one?Oklahoma City is the next race and it is very tempting to ride bein’ it’s my hometown and following the success at Sacramento and Springfield. The track at OKC is a horse race track and it gets relatively rough, it’s always hard ‘cause you get so much spray. It’s not the kind of track -- when I was racing for a living you had to ride whatever was up that week -- but at this point I’m just out there havin’ fun. While I would have fun gettin’ to ride in front of my hometown crowd and stuff again, there’s equal parts tempta- tion and intrepidation. At this point I’m not planning on riding although I have until the Thursday before the race to enter. I wasn’t planning it when I said I’d ride Tim’s Indian, but because of my recent success it’s very tempting although I might stick with my original plan.
