VET OPEN
THE MOTOPLAYGROUND RACE
at Ponca City 1
DAVID GINOLFI >>
If you thought the battle and outright speed
of the 25+ class was something to see, man were the fans in for a treat in the Vet Open class. It goes back to like we always say, there’s a certain “no holds barred” attitude with these open style classes, and this class brought the heat forsure. Ginolfi, as we all know, was a serious professional racer in his stay, and brought that same type of attitude to the line to begin moto number one. However, it was Nick Click who would storm out to a lead, bringing a bit of his youthful flare to the division, as Ginolfi battled with the likes of Justin Dickey and Vince Monetleone. Start- ing out in fifth, Dave would quickly push into fourth, looking to pass with each lap. He was in familiar territory, always making his moves around someone, rather than the opposite; once he had plunged into second though, he thought he may have had the position sewn up. But Vince had other plans, as a last ditch effort, on the counter to Ginolfi’s mistake, had the racers swapping positions and putting Vince into the second place ride. Ginolfi would try to throw down his quickest lap of the moto shortly therafter, but it was to no avail; his mistake had cost him, and he would have to settle for third place. Looking to avenge his loss, he would come off the line for moto two in a much more urgent manner. Developing a solid pace early on, he used his craftiness to soak up as many breaking bumps as pos- sible, all the while trying to scurry away from the pace of Click and Monteleone. Ginolfi felt a bit of pressure from the number 927, who was a serious amateur contender himself. The two would begin to pull a bit from everyone else, as Click wasn’t as grooving as well as we he was earlier. An admirable pace, both seem to ride comfortably until the last lap, when they absolutely dropped the hammer. Turning identical one minute, forty-six second laptimes, the decision at the stripe nearly
had to be taken with photography. Luckily, for the enhance technology provided by Escore and crew, they were quick to see that Ginolfi pulled it out in the final stages. And Dave ended up being a lot more excited than origi- nally thought; as many believed it may just be a bit of a walk in the park for him. A win in this moto would fortunately, boost him to an overall championship.
