VINCE MONTELEONE >>
If you used to watch any of the original Vurb Moto videos, or what was then called “Goat Kreations” you may have recog- nized Vince Monteleone’s name scrolling across the bottom of the camera screen. Years ago, he’d be apart of a surging Texas crew, sporting the number 927 on Kawasaki machines. He was an up and coming prospect for certain; but as we all know, to make a living in this sport is very tough, and Vince chose to go
for another career better fit for his lifestyle. However, he would come back to one of the most storied lands of his amateur career, here in Ponca City, to have some fun and rekindle his
youth. He would sign up for a few vet classes, and truly go out there to break a sweat, and see how well he would fare in as the weekend would conclude. The first moto saw a lack luster start forcing him into the back of the pack, where he would have to get creative in his working to the
front. Outside to inside, and vice-versa, would result in increased posi- tions every lap. Heck, he would even square up turns, and run across the grooves at an angled pattern if he had to. It was all in his path to get to the front, and with passing go-around, you saw an increased position high- lighted in green across the transponding monitor. The seventh old became the third of new, and with one more lap around, he met the familiar foe of Dave Ginolfi. And it was here, that he contemplated on how hard to go in order to seek the position. He decided to go all in, throwing caution to the way side, and fortunately became a recipient of Ginolfi’s mistake. Vince would then settle into second, where he would finish the moto. For the second round of action, Vince found himself in an optimal position to work, just behind Ginolfi and in second place. Following him for the first few laps, he was impressed with just how fast Dave was going, as they both were steadily pulling away little by little from Nick Click. Trying to poke a wheel in wherever he could, it was simply a matter of time before some- thing would occur. However, on the last lap, they both would simply be a copy-catting act of each other, where Vince would go on to set the fastest lap of the moto! Meanwhile Ginolfi would do the same out front! Giving it all he could, he would have to settle for second place for the moto. The race couldn’t have been closer, and as they road off the track, a congratu- latory thumbs up would be given from both competitors. He would go down in the record books with a second place overall.
