THE MOTOPLAYGROUND RACE
at Ponca City
cross-jumping, and splitting ruts occurring all around, this storm was getting wilder by the minute behind him, yet Koch would remain focused and his mind in the front of the field. Coming from ninth place, he would then pick off riders one by one, as he pushed his way to the front of the pack. Ninth quickly turned to fifth, and then third by the halfway point. His pace was imminent, and he was in constant need of better position. With the hotshoe’s of Fineis, and Trey Gibson in front, he knew he would have to start with these com- petitors in the run-off, if he wanted to make a run at a solid finish. Crossing the line in third, he was im- mediately ready for another contest. He would head back to the trailer, patiently waiting for his chance at a slight bit of redemption. Then, once bike and body were refueled, the field would be narrowed and sorted until their final gate. And it was here where Jagger Koch would excel. The running order early on would read, Fineis, Cameron Campbell, and Cole Jones of Pennsylvania, with Koch right there in fourth. Avoiding the roost of Jones, the four would scurry away from the pack, with Arizona’s DJ Weber just in tow. Koch wouldn’t ever get comfortable or complacent, as he was being sandwiched by two highly competi- tive riders in his proximity. Setting his fastest lap time on the last circuit of the day, he wanted to go as long as possible; however the checkered flag would fly, and the fourth place moto finish would be listed beside his name in the record books. With his crew around in the immediate post-race affairs, he was so relieved to find out that his scores would place him in second overall.
