DUSTINRENTERIA Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Champion
It’s not easy to stay composed and consistent when faced with a full gate of competition at the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Championship, but that’s exactly what Dustin Renteria did in the 250 C division. The Califor- nian made his first trip to the Ranch worthwhile by coming out on top in the class of chaotic results and hardnose racing, compiling 3-4-4 moto scores
in order to emerge as the ultimate victor. The first moto posed a challeng- ing situation for the KTM rider as he found himself battling for a spot inside the top ten throughout the opening stages of the first lap, but Renteria made some quick passes when the field was still bunched up, promoting himself to seventh position just in time to see the green flag. The Californian didn’t stop his fervent progress as he earned another three positions on the very next lap, jumping up to fourth position with the majority of the race still left to run. He took a couple of laps to regroup as he attempted to chase down the rider in third position, inching closer and closer as the waning stages of the moto quickly approached. Renteria was within striking distance of the podium as the white flag was shown to indicate the final lap and he miraculously made the pass at the last opportunity, putting him in a good position for the overall in the long run. The second and third moto were pretty similar for Renteria as he started just outside of the top five, quietly working his way up the lad- der. Inconsistencies from other riders allowed him to clinch the title with two fourth place finishes, although he had the chance to finish on the podium in the third and final moto. The Californian showed the composure and calcula- tion of a veteran as he backed off in the late stages of the race with the num- ber one plate in mind, finishing exactly where he needed in order to clinch his first Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Championship.
