COLTMARTIN Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Champion
Colt Martin’s first appearance at the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Moto- cross Championship took place in 2017, competing in the 51cc (4-6) Shaft
Dr LTD class in which he scored a ninth place finish. The youngster out
of Alabama has made drastic improvements as a rider in the past year as
he proved throughout the various qualifiers that he contested. Martin has been no stranger to the podium throughout the 2018 racing season, scor-
ing multiple podium finishes throughout the season, most notably at the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship and Spring A Ding Ding at Underground MX. The southerner showcased outright consistency at his area and re- gional qualifiers, winning the (4-6) Limited class as well as the (4-6) Special LTD class on multiple occasions. The Cobra rider found a way to carry that momentum into the first gate drop at the big dance as he pulled the holeshot in the opening 51cc (4-6) Special LTD division, refusing to look back until the checkered flag. Martin laid the hammer down in the early stages of the moto and built a whopping advantage of almost eight seconds after just one lap, but that didn’t stop him from slowing down as he turned the fastest lap of the moto on the very last lap around the circuit. In the second race, he employed a different strategy and laid down the fastest lap time at the very beginning
of the race, stretching out a gap of more than ten seconds after just one lap. The competition was no match for Martin’s raw speed as he continued to trounce the field throughout the five lap race, crossing the line with more than thirty seconds in hand ahead of second place. The third moto produced an- other win and another fastest lap for the Alabama native, although he didn’t need to do so to clinch the championship -- but don’t fix what’s not broken, right?
