TYMASTERPOOL Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Champion
Ty Masterpool had one of the most incredible weeks of his amateur racing career last year at the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Cham- pionship, earning both Supermini titles in dominant fashion aboard a TM motorcycle. It was one year prior to his success in the Supermini class that Masterpool also claimed the number one plate in the Mini Sr. 2 class, com- pleting an exceptional streak of three Loretta Lynn Amateur National Moto- cross Championships. The Texan’s masterful performance in the Supermini class last year rightfully drew some attention from some of the heavy hitters in the world of amateur motocross, eventually leading to a deal with the Star Racing Yamaha team. It hasn’t been the smoothest transition for Masterpool since making the move to the factory team as he’s faced a couple of various injury problems and so forth, but he always seems to turn it up a notch at the Ranch. The sweltering humidity and treacherous, rutty conditions of the track surely suit his style and it was no different in 2018 as Masterpool dominated the competition in the 125cc (12-16) B/C division as well as the Schoolboy 1 class. Throughout the entire week of racing, Masterpool started inside the top ten on the first lap on only two occasions; otherwise, he was forced to battle through the field and earn his results the hard way. It’s easy to spot him in the midst of the other competitors as his riding style is one of a kind; the bike is constantly banging off the rev limiter, scrubbing at every possible opportu- nity in an attempt to shave a couple of tenths here and there. He attacks the corners with a certain type of reckless abandon that the other riders fail to duplicate, owning the ruts from corner entry to corner exit. Masterpool earned four moto wins and an additional two podium finishes, rewarding him with the number one plate in both classes. The Texan has won five Loretta Lynn Ama- teur National Motocross Championships in succession following the pair of titles that he earned this year, but he actually won’t have a chance to improve his streak. Masterpool announced on the podium that the 37th annual Loretta Lynn’s will be his last as he’s slated to make his Professional Motocross de- but next year at Hangtown with the Star Racing Yamaha team.
