It all started with the introduction of the Indian Scout FTR750 in 2016 -- a purpose built dirt-tracker that was designed specifically for the race track. It had been since 1953 that the motorcycle manufacturer won its last Grand National Championship, but Indian didn’t have to wait long after it’s reintroduction to the sport. The Scout FTR750 not only won
the AFT Twins title in the hands of Jared Mees in 2017, but Indian also managed to win the manufacturers championship in the AFT Twins class as well. That’s an incredible feat after being removed from competitive racing for more than sixty years, serving as a solid testament to the strength of the Indian Scout FTR750. As opposed to basing their race bike on a production model as most manufacturers do, Indian flipped the script last year as they revealed the one-off Indian Scout FTR1200 Custom, proposing to the public what a potential street legal dirt-track bike could look like. It was manufactured to celebrate the FTR750’s dominant performance in American Flat Track and the brands return to racing. After teasing motorcycle enthusiasts alike with the unveiling of the motorcycle at the 2017 EICMA show in Milan, it has been confirmed that the Indian Scout FTR1200 will begin production in 2019.
