Placed in the second heat, the California native appeared eleventh after the first turn. Making moves, he bullied his way to eighth as they passed timing and scoring on lap one. He would find himself in seventh with three to go, knocking on the door of Frenchy,
Christophe Pourcel. Unfortunately, that door remained locked, and Peick began to stumble down the steps, all the way to fourteenth. He would gain two more positions as the race ended, finishing twelth and forced to the semi.
Round two of the main card would find Peick in semi number one, and flirting with the top five over the main triple. He analyzed each rider, moving his way up to third and once again spying some French tail (Pourcel). The criti- cally acclaimed “Crafty” Frenchman would falter however, placing Peick behind his West Coast foe and Friese team- mate, Mike Alessi. Peick would cruise to a cool second once the race completed, obtaining a main event bid.
Nestled between AJ Catanzaro and Trey Canard, Weston found himself in thirteenth following the main event takeoff. Never complacent, Weston had pushed his way to eleventh as lap three began, and even passed James Stew- art for tenth on lap five.
Weston had his hands full at the halfway point however, with both Ken Roczen squeezing past and Husqvarna teammates (Pourcel/Anderson) following suit. Trailing Eli Tomac and residing in twelfth with three to go, he would follow
the Kawasaki mounted rider to the checkered and finish there.
