JOSH GRANT
May 16, 2004, a crisp California day, where the AMA Professional Motocross Series held the inaugural opening round of its anticipated tour. Thousands watching from the fences, as well as on the television screens, pictured a throw down between James Stewart, Mike Brown, and
Stephane Roncada right from the get go.
As the pack roared to the first corner however, an unfamiliar face emerged leader; a rookie, number 386 of Josh Grant. Hidden to many by a pleasant, but not spectacular amateur career, the then Amsoil Factory Connection Honda team signed the California prospect, on a basis of raw speed and true confidence.
The teenager would go on to lead the first few laps before stalling and finishing 35th overall. Although not an ideal result, JG showed both fans and competitors alike what he consists of at his core; a premise that’s amassed him ride after ride
and eventually landing a spot with Monster Energy Kawasaki, one which he’s occupied this weekend.
