This guy always seems to have one of the coolest setups in the pits, and the newly implanted Monster Energy Kawasaki rider’s current look was no different. The suave selection of custom helmet and gear seemed to boost the mojo of Grant, as he took the opening sequences of heat one in fourth position. With veteran Chad Reed in tow, Grant began to perspire and feel the wrath of the Aussie and New
Mexico Lobo, Jason Anderson.
In a mere instant, it seemed as if the Husky rider moved past Grant, but not without rubbing a little paint in the elevated corner after the finish line. What seemed to be a small pass, turned into unfortunate troublesome encounter, as Grant began to slow down and look at the bike in dismay, allowing Reed to finally go by; Josh would salvage the rest of the lap, and finish sixth.
Semi number one saw JG33 literally bumping into his childhood rival Mike Alessi in the opening moments, and sitting fourth
as he crossed timing and scoring. He seemed to be impatient and displaying a sense of urgency, which resulted in a “Kangaroo-esque” pounce past the Smartop Motoconcepts rider in the whoop section. This would place Grant into third, where he would finish, looking ahead to the main event.
As the fireworks blasted for the festivities to begin, Grant wedged a tenth place start trailing teammate Eli Tomac. An all clear looked to be in effect until the grid displayed the number 33 dropping unreasonably fast, all the way to 14th. 17h at the halfway point, JG33 was amidst the chaos of the hectic 450 field and clawing for every inch of racetrack he could find. Alternate lines were now a must-use option and JG made way around Nick Wey with five to go. With the misfortune of Justin Brayton and a few others, Grant sat 14th with a few to go and would remarkably charge to 12th by evening’s end.
