Eli Tomac lit the fire at round seven of the outdoor nationals, charging harder then ever in each moto.
Off the start of moto one the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider began right behind the points leader of
Ken Roczen. Knowing he had to keep close to the Suzuki rider, Tomac charged through the front runners tailing Roczen. Ten minutes into the race there was a three way battle for the lead between Bogle, Roczen, and Tomac. Seizing an opportu- nity he charges hard and passes Roczen for second. But it didn’t last, Roczen quickly pulled the trigger and passed him right back. Around thirteen minutes into the race tomac finally got by Bogle and continued chasing down his target of Ken Roczen. Using the momentum of the pass he caught right back up to the leader. Taking advantage of his flat tracking skills, Tomac pins it around a slick corner and passes Roczen for a second time, this time sticking. With ten minutes left of the moto Tomac had managed to pull a 9.2 second lead over Roczen, the first time anyone has beat him straight up all year. The pressure was on for Tomac in moto two, knowing he had to beat the heavy hitter of Roczen to get that overall. Off the start he puts it down and jumps right into fourth chasing down the points leader. Changing up his line choice he quickly maneuvers himself around Pour- cel. Almost ten minutes into the moto he closed the 2 second gap between him and Roczen. Tomac gets an insane drive on the outside of a sweeper and uses the momentum to make the pass on Roczen about half way through the moto.
