Benny Bloss has steadily been improving as of late and wanted to continue doing so at Southwick. His tall, lanky demeanor would come in handy absorbing the nasty ruts and bumps that the sandy track creates. He qualified twenty-seventh overall but that was due to the first practice session having a very
smooth course to operate on. Bloss was more than ready for the races.
The first moto kicked off with Bloss getting one of his better starts of the year albeit eleventh place. He took advantage of the better starting position and within a few laps he was up into eighth. He was running good times up there and began to slowly inch up on Nicoletti for seventh. He would eventually inherit the position after Nicoletti would have to retire early from the moto due to a mechanical. He looked to have the spot secured until Barcia came blasting through with three laps to go to steal the position away. Bloss would still end up in eighth marking a career best moto finish for the young rookie.
