How did a kid growing up in central Michigan end up racing professional flat track? My dad raced and I rode bicycles around forever, so we went to the local short track which was the Auto City Speedway, and it’s actually a half-mile and the short track is built up one end of the banking and then goes into the infield for the short corner. So one corner is around fifth gear on the high bank and you go down to fourth for the other corner which is flat. So we went to watch those guys and I saw Ted Boody, Jay Springsteen, Corky Keener, and then all of a sudden they raced professionally and they were there every Saturday night. I got really into watchin’ those guys and eventually I asked dad if I could race. I got a Honda 50 and it just escalated from there, so I started racing two-stroke 60s, 125s, then the 250, 360 Bultaco, and there you go....
