Just as the bike is completely brand new, so are a majority of the components. The 2018 YZ65 is built from the ground up to offer race winning performance and cutting-edge tech- nology right out of the gate. Although it has borrowed a lot of the characteristics and quality from it’s older relatives -- right down to the blue wheels -- the newly crafted YZ65 has its own legs to stand on.
The new engine features Yamaha’s legendary YPVS, mechanical power valve system for a broad spread of power and torque across the entirety of the RPM range, combining bottom- end torque with potent midrange and a ceilingless top-end. The engine is easy to start and sounds crisp, somewhat similar to a 125cc when kicked over, producing an impressive gravely tone for such a small bike. The Close-Ratio Transmission is a game changer -- optimizing gear ratios for maximum performance, providing the rider with the right gear for every condition. Rarely do you need to use the clutch to find extra power out of the corners and it’s suggested that your left boot is fixed in shifting position as this thing flies through the gears when needed. Due to the research and development accomplished through the racing endeavors of the championship-winning YZ125 and YZ250 motocrossers, the YZ65 features a proven reed-valve induction that improves acceleration and throttle response across the entire powerband. A carefully tuned Kehin PWK28 carburetor and an efficient cooling system in the form of a compact radiator ensure optimal performance in any racing condition, bringing Yamaha back to the forefront of amateur competition.
