The first round of the 2018 Mon- ster Energy AMA Supercross se- ries will mark the beginning of a new era. It will be the first time in a historic eleven year period that Ryan Dungey will watch from the outside looking in on a sport that he dominated, legitimizing himself as one of the all-time greats in the process. There are a lot of storylines in play heading into the seventeen round series -- some of them speculation, opinion, and hype, but there is no doubt that the absence of the defending champion will leave
a void that needs to be filled.
It provides a dangling carrot in front of all the other competitors on the gate, bloating their heads with an air of confidence as they pound laps at the practice track in anticipation for Anaheim 1.
