DEREK DRAKE – 250 B LIMITED
KILPATRICK
When searching for a true national champion, you must search all boundaries of the globe in order to truly pinpoint who could be called the respec- tive best in the division. From all corners, they flock to this small town in Tennessee, willing to lay it all on the line, all in hopes of being titled “king.” Derek Drake yearns for that; and his riding
in the 250 B limited class was
a replication of his inner-drive. The first moto saw the KTM pilot, come from an eighth place start, to taking the lead, in a matter of four laps. All the while running below the star-studded 2:00 minute threshold. Overtak- ing Parker Mashburn, Drake would continuously pound lap after lap, putting a stamp on this section of the event; he would win by 18 seconds, and would remain both quiet in confident. The second time around was even more decisive, as Drake would lead from start to finish, posting a daunting 1:55 laptime, nearing the fastest of the week. It was the way he was flowing that was so spectacular, his
ruts were never jagged. They simply arced, with a crisp swift, and would vault out of the turn, all in one sequence. He would win the second moto by more than 30 seconds. Moto number three was much of the same, hitting the 2:00 minute mark, and leaving Marcus Phelps and the rest of the contenders to battle amongst themselves. Drake
was garnering tons of attention by pro scouts, and all his camp could do was sit back and nod, knowing the California native was piecing this puzzle together perfectly. Each lap, the lead would continue to be stretched. Driving home the fact that he had prepared tremendously for this opportunity. He would go
on to take the moto win, and complete the trilogy sweep, your 2017 250 B limited national champion.
