KILPATRICK
JAY WAGNER SENIOR (45+)
The Senior 45+ division is one that’s filled with experience, seat time, and wise tales. These guys have seen and done it all in the realm of motocross, having many crashes, injuries, and wins of their own. Therefore, the composure and wisdom is apparent, even when viewing the race from the fence line. And just by watching riders like Jay Wagner, you’re
sure to learn a thing or two, that can be translated immediately into riding of your own. The first moto, it was a tandem battle out front, as Indiana’s Wagner pulled from New York’s Scott Phelps. Each lap rais- ing the bar for the fastest laptime, it was Phelps who would do so, although Wagner’s chess-like antics, provided a wall for Phelps to have to maneuver around. Hopping each lap down the ledge, prior to the final left-hander, his outside line was gaining precious time, each go around. Moments like these would turn his leading into a moto win. The second moto saw Wagner nail the start yet again, pushing ahead of both Den- nis Bourque and Ryan Weatherby. Wagner, at times could be seen launching off the inside rollers, on his quest for the 2:16 laptime; he would succeed, pushing until the final flag, and claiming yet another victory aboard the number 80 Suzuki. Moto number three was a bit different, although at first lead- ing the moto. He backed the RMZ down to a bit of cruise control, letting traffic merge in around him, and fading back to fourth by about the midway point. Knowing he
had points to spare, he let Ryan Weatherby push out front, all the while he remained at bay in fourth. He would finish here, enough to secure the title. This wasn’t his first rodeo, and he was planning
to get the championship by any means necessary; and that he did.
