85CC (12-13)
KILPATRICK
There’s a knock on kids these days, for not having much of a work ethic. The founda- tion of this country, a notion engrained
in the lives of all predecessor’s, was that hard work triumphs all. It’s as though many adults, believe it has skipped the entire generation of millennials, and is nowhere to be found. But that’s the thing about assumption’s and generalizations; there’s always a piece that you overlook, and in- clude when you shouldn’t. And in the case of the 85cc (12-13) Limited division, it isn’t just one person in particular; it’s the whole field. With names like Leodorico, Prince, and Gilmore, you knew this would be a test of whose will to win was the strongest. The first heat, saw Marcello shoot out of the cannon, his bowling ball of momentum pummeling any and everything in sight. Gilmore, foreign to this land, was proving that he could adapt to any circumstance
in an instant, taking on this country with
his flag held high. The two would begin to sprint from the field, the number 16 lunging at the 44 with every go around. However, Marcello seemed to be just a step or two ahead, eventually leading every lap, and taking the win in this moto. For round number two, the final pep talk was given by the number 44’s mechanic, as he reiterated and reminded, just to breathe and let the bike flow. As the bike fired up, he would re- ceive his last pat on the back and knuckle bump, knowing that it was now just he and the track. He would do just that, taking a big gulp of air the moment he rounded the first corner in the lead. With a six second gap on the field to begin lap number two, it truly was smooth sailing, once his lead was established. He through his machine into the wind, and let the bike be taken wher- ever it chose. An unexpected buck from
a breaking bump? He would hop with his knees, riding the front wheel into the follow- ing rut. A period of fish tail swapping due to the various amount of chop? He kept the throttle pinned, moving from one side of
the track to the other. It was as though he’d run this through his mind a thousand times, and it was coming to fruition. Taking the checkered flag, he knew the long trip from California was worth it, and that this would only make him hungry for more.
