Freddy Noren was ready to do battle in the sandy conditions of Southwick on Saturday morning. In a list full of fast local riders, Fred was able to qualify a very impressive 9th going into the motos. With many factory riders qualifying outside the top fifteen, Freddy knew he had a chance for a breakout performance. When the first 450 moto began, disaster struck for Freddy as he found himself up close and personal with the Mas-
sachusetts sand. He was the last one to pick his bike up from the first turn pile up and was running near last place after the first lap. Freddy began to regain his composure and was able to start clawing his way up through the stacked field. He was picking off riders like they were standing still and had his eye on the top twenty. With two laps to go, Freddy was in 21st and was doing everything he could to make in to the top twenty. By the time the checkers flew, he was sitting in a very impressive 20th and had made the best of what could have been a 40th place. In the next moto, Freddy’s start was not much better and he found himself outside of the top thirty again. He was determined to salvage the moto again and began picking guys off. As they neared the halfway point, Freddy had made his way into the top twenty and was looking to get into the top fifteen before the moto was over. With ten minutes left on the clock, Freddy was just outside the top fifteen and trying to find the best way passed the rider in front of him. The rider in front of him ended up going down and Noren gladly accepted the 15th position. Unfortunately, a mistake would drop him back to 20th place on the last lap. He would take 23rd overall at Southwick.
