As the gate fell in unison, Roczen was eager to separate himself from the field with a quick reaction and holeshot, leading the field around the first turn. Relentlessly fighting to stay in the lead, Ken began to rail every berm in sight, wishing for optimum momentum and a bit of breathing room from his KTM opponent.
As they landed the triple however, Dungey took the inside, forcing Ken to drive deeper and drag the bars through the hard-packed left bowl that followed.
With Dungey making the move final in the following rhythm section, Roczen attached himself to the champion and ardently awaited another chance to pass. He saw an opportunity prior to the whoop section and took it, moving into the lead and pushing Ryan wide.
With his team screaming BLITZKRIEG from the mechanic’s area, Ken attempted to sprint from the champion. He would begin to stretch the gap little by little, until the halfway point, where the champion’s mentality began to kick in. Roczen’s gap was shrinking and the distinct sound of the KTM was becoming louder into Ken’s ears. Although a tad scare around the quad in the rhythm section almost cost him the lead, he held the top spot with three to go. Dungey would provide one more late race charge, however Ken was having none of it and would set sail for victory.
