A creature of habit at the front of the field, Dungey sat comfortably pre-snap with the first gate choice. The pack scurried into turn one, and Ryan crossed the stripe in an uncharacteristic eighth place position. Texas two-stepping through the competition, his vision was focused on
his former Baker’s Factory training partner, Ken Roczen, who was just in front of him. Every time Dungey would enter the tunnel area of the track, he seemed to charge much deeper into the following right-hander than Roczen, but couldn’t make the pass stick. He would however overtake his sister-brand (Husqvarna) competitor of Christophe Pourcel and trail Roczen to the checkered, placing second.
