No nonsense, no games, and all business: the motto for the 37 camp in Arlington. The calm be-
fore the storm, Savatgy seemed determined to execute a perfect start and into the front, and that he did.
Sitting in second through the opening rhythm lane, he trailed the number 38 of Craig. Inheriting the lead before the end of lap number one, Joey was sitting pretty prior to the difficult whoop section.
Skipping the first half of the moguls with ease, Savatgy left, Craig right; they hit the wall and unleashed raw power down the backside. Bouncing one, two, three, Craig began to merge left, further and further; with Savat- gy’s championship aspirations flashing before his eyes and nowhere to go, Joey plowed into the left swingarm of Craig, and somersaulted into the asphalt-like soil. His heart racing and mind rushing, he began to kick and push the bike off of his neck, all the while dodging the trailing pack amongst the scream of thousands.
22nd and nothing to lose, Joey had no other choice but to fight and salvage as many points as he could. As the saying states, “championships are won on your toughest days,” Savatgy tried dearest to hold true to the quote, and battled his way to tenth. Although he hung his head in disgust as he crept up the finish line face, the Pro Circuit rider has nothing to be ashamed of. He has a few more opportunities to redeem himself once the series returns.
