As the anticipation for the heat came to its peak, Craig was lined up in the gate alongside championship points leader, Cooper Webb. Craig grabbed the holeshot smoothly but would have Webb breathing down his neck as they rounded the second turn. By the end of the second lap Webb began to put pressure on Craig. In the third lap, a tight pass by Webb would switch up the lead and Craig would lose ground; and Webb would go on to take the victory. Although he didn’t take the win, Craig held on to his second place – getting him to the main event.
