  HOCKEY
Wynberg’s hockey season started with the U13A team girls attending a successful All Girls Festival in Bloemfontein. In true Wynberg style we set the tone for the rest of the season and the girls created a very strong sense of sisterhood amongst teams and players from all over South Africa. We had a large number of girls sign up for hockey which meant running a number of trials before selection took place. The focus for 2019 has been fluidity amongst teams and the girls were made aware of the process and the importance of playing a team sport.
T he girls have shown confidence and very good basics throughout the season. The league matches have
been extremely competitive but overall our Wynberg Girls have faired extremely well against all schools. g
During the winter break a number of our girls represented WP in different age groups and did our school and their province proud. Our U9s and U11s also participated in a twilight tournament. It was fantastic to see these girls display amazing team spirit and confidence. Our U11s were awarded the prize for displaying the best sportsmanship at the tournament. Our U10As and Bs showed a remarkable improvement at the Sweet Valley Hockey Festival. The talent in this age group is especially promising for hockey in our junior school.
The season ended with the traditional U13a vs U14a match and to see how the“old”junior school girls have taken everything they learnt in junior school up to the high school.
Wynberg has had an extremely busy hockey season and with the increasing number of players and teams, it shows promise for the future. Most importantly – our girls are playing sport and developing important skills to work as a team.
