PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
2019 has revealed many talents and hidden skills at Wynberg Girls Junior School. Like a traditional Russian Doll, or Matryoshka, as it is known, each learner has the potential to achieve and challenge themselves – this is embedded in their soul from birth.
The unfolding of this doll or on opening to see the smaller version inside, an exact replica, is similar to our girls discovering their potential. Our theme of ‘Believe in Yourself’ has encouraged each person to be resilient and use every opportunity to excel. We have seen this in the classroom, on the sports field, at every music concert, in our acts of service to others and standing united in sustainability.
More importantly than simply achieving, these achievements have been reflected from the heart of every Wynberg learner, teacher, staff member and our families. As with the Matryoshka who holds the future generations in her soul, so every girl at Wynberg has the power to influence the future.
In 1993 the Wynberg Campus of Schools held a mass assembly with a call for Peace. Everyone was dressed in blue and white and balloons were released, each containing a message of peace intended for the finder. Similarly, we stood united as four schools in our stand against abuse of women on 5 September 2019. What a powerful message we sent out.
As a school our focus has been on building resilience. This can only be achieved through a respectful environment – respect for self, others and the environment.
Thanks to an amazing staff and supportive parents, our girls are privileged to enjoy fantastic facilities, be at the cutting edge of educational innovations and be challenged daily.
This year we have seen coding and robotics move into a focus area, linguistics and communication being developed through a love for reading, improving spoken language in our fabulous Language Lab and delving into the digital world. In addition, we’ve seen the introduction of third and fourth languages to which the girls have been exposed as well as the continual challenge to solve mathematical problems and increase general knowledge.
This magazine is like a treasure chest of all the accomplishments, days of fun and opportunities of learning that have been experienced at Wynberg Girls’ Junior School this year.
Our thanks go to the staff, School Governing Body, fundraising team, class representatives and all the families for their endless support in making this year such an amazing one. g
