Sport
Congratulations to our Wynberg Families who participated in the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Well done to Kathleen Bischof and Stuart Buckley for completing the 109 km race. The highly energetic Lauren Furter and Kerri Young also completed the Knysna Marathon. Our cross country coach, Nic Notten, earned third place and a bronze medal at the world U23 Canoe Marathon Championships this year. Our director of hockey, Ryan Pillay, coached the U21 Women’s Team which won gold at the national tournament.
Thanks
Our sincerest thanks go to our administration team who keep our ship sailing smoothly and our maintenance team who keep all the cogs in our machine well oiled. We have been kept safe by Harold Bagley and Aunty Sharon Rhode and cared for in the afternoons by our loving aftercare staff and for this we are grateful.
Farewells
During the year we had to say farewell to Megan Torr in Grade 7 and in her place we welcomed Megan McCurrach. We also wished Shakeelah Jaipal all the best as she embarked on an adventure to Saudi Arabia. In her place, we welcomed back Tarryn Witney who had been teaching in Abu Dhabi.
• We wished Gail Sherry a happy retirement after a long service at WGJS. We also said goodbye to Jonothan Matanzima from our maintenance team.
• The much loved Thelma Skippers from our Aftercare will be retiring at the end of the year and we wish her a very happy retirement. We will always remember her storytelling to entertain us in the afternoons.
• Our very busy marketing and communications manager, Aneeqa Said, decided to ‘jump the fence’ after her maternity leave and has taken up a position at Wynberg Boys’ Junior school. We look forward to having her just next door. Wanika Davids will be taking over this role.
Some of our interns will be moving on in their careers namely, Megan Kabeya from Aftercare, Jessica Tuckniss from Grade R and Shihaam Morris, Dale Maree and Cara Geere from the Intersen Phase.
