The diagram below shows the organiza�on of AFP surveillance at na�onal, states and
lower levels. It also indicates the rela�on between the program, WHO, and different
commi�ees Na�onal Cer�fica�on Commi�ee, Na�onal Experts Commi�ee and Poliovi-
rus Lab Containment Commi�ee.

Staff:

Ministry of Health posted 24 surveillance officers throughout the 18 states of the
country, one in each state plus addi�onal. There is one interna�onal WHO Medical
Officer, Na�onal Coordinator, Na�onal Field Officer and 14 states NMOs holding
WHO/SSA to support sensi�vity of surveillance system and offer help in other areas of
EPI program as well as public health programs. In each locality the EPI officer is also
working as locality surveillance officer. In each sen�nel site a focal person and a
deputy are iden�fied and trained to do the job
