 Mitre 10 outage not
a hack
“Technical issues” led to Mitre 10’s week- long website outage in mid-October, forcing stores still under Alert Level restrictions to adapt quickly to ordering by phone and email.
The timing couldn’t have been worse for the cooperative or for its customers, with Auckland and other North Island regions unable to visit stores in person.
Refuting rumours of the site being hacked, Mitre 10 said in no uncertain terms of the outage at the time: “Forensics undertaken by our team and independent experts to date have given us confidence the cause is not a security breach.”
With the website back up and running and online ordering reinstated, a further statement was issued: “The recent rapid changes to Alert Levels and associated operating protocols since New Zealand returned to lockdown have required many and frequent changes to be made to our website.
“The unfortunate result was an accumulation of complex technical issues which resulted in the outage... The fix required extensive testing ... to ensure the site would remain stable once e-commerce functionality was reinstated.
“We’re very grateful for the patience and understanding customers have shown through this challenging period and we’re particularly pleased that
our stores still bound by Alert Level 3 restrictions are able to trade online again.”
