New ways of working with SPAX
SPAX revolutionises the deck boundary joist market – Systems for fastening boundary joists and baluster posts onto decking frames can be overly complicated and costly, very labour intensive and often end up with an unattractive finish around the outside and underside of the deck.
Recognising the limitations and complexity of the current systems, SPAX has developed and tested an innovative new solution – a bracket-less boundary joist and post fixing solution.
Remarkably simple to use and aesthetically appealing, trials have shown that this new SPAX solution is more than three times faster than other common methods.
The SPAX solution simply uses a washer head screw to clamp the components tightly together.
Using a SPAX pre-drill guide for accurate and fast installation, fully threaded SPAX stainless-steel screws are installed at a 15° angle into the end grain of the deck joist, making for an extremely strong and rigid connection.
The job is completed by fastening the post to the boundary joist with SPAX fully threaded countersunk stainless-steel screws.
Stringent testing was conducted locally in New Zealand, with the results confirming that the SPAX solution fully complies with NZS
3604 and clause B1 of the New Zealand Building Code, as well as the strength and deflection requirements of AS/NZS 1170.
Invisible beam-to-post connections with SPAX – SPAX has also developed a cost-effective, easy-to-install and completely bracket- less beam-to-post fixing solution.
The SPAX solution has proven to be cost effective and is easy to install with the user-friendly guide provided. Delta-Seal coating on the screws also provides the ultimate corrosion protection and long- lasting durability.
Using a SPAX washer head screw to clamp the beam to the post, fully threaded screws are then installed to provide a connection with maximum load capacity.
The cylindrical head on the screws can be easily submerged below the timber surface eliminating any signs of visible connection. The washer head screw may then be removed if desired having completed its job.
PS1 Producer Statements for both new SPAX systems are available for Building Consent Authorities to ensure compliance with the relevant sections of the Building Code.
