Page 15 - Asking A Question
P. 15
Our “Asking A Question” story is important in the development of social skills that will help a child throughout life. This skill is significant in the school setting because poor ‘question asking’ can cause problems in the classroom and make a child see school as a place they don’t like.
We put the skills of question asking in the form of Rules. Because these are “Rules” of Cosmos Crow, you can enforce them without being seen as ‘being mean’ or nagging. “You know the Question Rule, ‘Don’t
interrupt with a question’, so please sit quietly until I have finished.”
By teaching and enforcing the Question Rules, your
child will learn not only these skills but those of “evaluating a situation,” and of “being patience and polite.” These are Skills that they can use forever. Teaching these “cognitive life skills” will take time and practice. Therefore it is important for you, the adult, also learn and practice them.
Make a poster of the “Rules” and put it in a location that will allow for it’s frequent use. This will be time well spent and will lead to a life well spent.
