P. 30

WORKSHEET
Cosmos talks about the confusion we have about tattling. Sometimes you should tell a grown-up and other times you should just work it out. But Tanya’s reasons for telling on others were the result of her Stinky Thinking and her behavior was Thumbs Down. Help children understand that motivation such as "getting even” is the result of Stinky Thinking. Therefore, it is not a justification for tattling behavior. In this situation their behavior is Thumbs Down.
Part of the process in developing Coping Skills is helping children understand the motivations of others. Tattling may lose some of its attractiveness if others see it as inappropriate and do not reward that type of behavior in peers.
1. When Tanya would tattle on others, she would tell herself something like, “She can’t do that, I’ll show her, I will tell the teacher.” Was Tanya having Good Thinking or Stinky Thinking? Stinky Thinking
2. When Tanya would tattle on others, her thinking might be something like, “They should have shared that with me. They are not being fair and I am being cheated.” Would Tanya feel OK or Not OK when she told her things like that? Not OK
3. When Tanya would tattle on others because of the thinking in Questions 1 and 2, was her behavior Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down? Thumbs Down
