Just then, all the hissing stopped. I looked at the ground and saw that all the snakes were looking at the large boulder at the mouth of the cave. Slowly, over the edge of the boulder, a head appeared and then came the rest of the body of what appeared to be a very ancient snake.
His eyes were a milky white color and his movements were very slow. His skin was still tight but you could see his ribs. He coiled into an upright position and looked over the audience.
Not a sound could be heard. Then Sally whispered, “You are in luck. This is our greatest Teller of Tales.” I will admit that I was already impressed with the old guy. But let me tell you, he told a great tale that everyone needs to hear and this is how he told it: It is important that we remember all the lessons of time. If we learn from them and practice what the lessons teach, we may never have to experience the difficulties of those who had to learn the lesson the first time,” he said in a slow, deliberate tone.
Once upon a time, the world was full of snakes, all of which had smooth tails. They got along very well with each other and the world was a remarkably pleasant place to be ... if you were a snake.
