The Cantdo Cranes were willing to listen to the advice of the Elf because it agreed with their Stinky Thinking. They did not want their lives to be difficult and dangerous.
They were willing to behave in a way (Thumbs Down) that would cause them to fail. They did that not because they wanted to fail but because they did not want to do the difficult things necessary to succeed.
The Cando Cranes would have also liked for life to be easy. But they realized that change was going to be difficult
and dangerous.
They did not insist that things should stay the same. They realized that they must work hard, try new ways of doing things and face their fears.
This fable may have been about ancient cranes but it is also about young boys and girls.
To be successful and happy, you must accept that your lives will change, figure out how to best deal with the changes and then do it.
