WORKSHEET
In the final worksheet page of this story, Cosmos talks about Cleanliness and Learning. Parents usually manage young children when it comes to Cleanliness, Go take your bath, Get your clothes off the floor and so on. But eventually, the desire to maintain cleanliness has to become internalized so that an authority figure is not required. I am clean and neat because I want to be clean and neat. It makes me feel good. Once this occurs, adult guidance is no longer necessary.
The concept of Learning is very important in the story. Of all the Gifts it is the most important. We must continue to learn throughout our lives. We must be able to unlearn some things because they no longer apply. These are the true human skills that have allowed us to be successful. As the Dodo bird put it, I know all I need to know about everything I need to know about. That belief is a recipe for failure.
1. When you tell yourself things like the Dodo Bird, what is that type of thinking?
S nky Thinking
2. If you have Dodo S nky Thinking, what types of grades will you make in school?
Not good
For many children, the Gi s of the fable are perceived as burdens. It is typical of children to be more like the animals of the fable and want to avoid the Gi s. Use the story and the other opportuni es to encourage your child to see the Gifts in a positive light.
