HOLDEN COLLECTION: OBJECTS OF NATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE Holden Collection consists of approximately 1,400 items that were made or used in Louisiana in the early 18th-century to about 1830.
Two Colonial Refectory Tables, 1734 -1753 & 1750-1824: Among the earliest pieces in existence of Louisiana furniture
and filled with history of the Ursuline Nuns. The history of the Louisiana table starts here. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana, fig. 2-3, pp250 – 251.
Chitimacha Baskets: Significant as a group collection. Forty baskets from the 19th century through the 1930s. Although not well known, considered by collectors to be the best Native Peoples baskets in America.
Most collectors have one or two baskets, this is a large comprehensive collection. (LBChi – 1-40)
