 HOLDEN COLLECTION: OBJECTS OF NATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE Holden Collection consists of approximately 1,400 items that were made or used in Louisiana in the early 18th-century to about 1830.
   “FB” armoire, Roux Group, circa 1801
One of three extant Armoires by this cabinetmaker from Vincennes, Indiana.
More is know about this armoire than any other in this collection. Dr. Charles van Ravenswaay, Director of Winterthur Museum, considered this his favorite piece of Upper Valley furniture. Very important armoire.
The piece migrated with the family to New Orleans. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana, fig. 8, p.426.
Salazar Portrait of Comtess Loubies
The portrait was featured in the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans Tricentennial Exhibition, 2018, and published in the book Salazar Portraits of Influence in Spanish Colonial Louisiana pp.148-149.
Colonial Walnut Cabriole Leg Armoire, 1770-1790 Rare shaped panels, probably first generation French cabinetmaker). Featured in Furnishing Louisiana, fig. 23, p.146.
       Upper Valley Commode, 1790-1800
Rarest of the Upper Valley forms.
This style was popular in Canada and was probably made by a cabinetmaker immigrant from Canada. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana, fig. 23, p 439.
Creole-Style Cabriole Table, 1790-1820
Amoung the fifteen or so known Louisiana cabriole tables, this is the best. Original finish and intact. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana pp. 259-260.
Acadian-Style Trestle Table, 1760-1840
One of the rarest pieces of furniture in the collection documenting Louisiana life. Nice example. Featured in Furnishing Louisiana fig. 26, p. 264.
