161) REDHEAD CARNATION SIDE-PART BUBBLECUT BARBIE MIB
• Throughout the years, Mattel marketed its Barbie dolls through retailers as well as through premium
offers
• In 1964 Mattel partnered with Carnation to offer the most extensive promotion seen thus far
• Consumers could send in Carnation Malted Milk labels with cash to receive a Barbie or Midge doll
or fashions
• A special pink Carnation Catalog was printed that showed the choices available to consumers
• This part cash premium was so successful that it was continued and expanded in 1965 so that
consumers could choose a Barbie, Midge, Allan, Ken or Skipper doll along with an expanded
choice of fashions
• The premium was advertised on Carnation Malted Milk Jar labels as well as through a series of ads
in comic books
• The jars also included a small booklet affixed to the lid, which is very scarce
• A later issued yellow Carnation Catalog (included) was printed to show these offerings
• Interestingly, two catalogs came with each Carnation doll, the later issued yellow booklet has the
appropriate booklet accompanying it, and the earlier issued pink Carnation catalog came with
the earlier Barbie, Ken and Midge booklet
• This amazing, all original doll has factory mint hair in original side-part styling
• This striking beauty has factory face paint lips that have turned to a butter crème color
• Earring holes at ears, green at right ear, larger than pearl
• Body is mint with nice finger and toe polish
• She comes wearing a reattached wrist tag
• Includes original liner, HTF Carnation Booklet sealed in cello with shoes, HTF mini round Carnation
catalog in cello and black wire stand
• Box is excellent, marked Redhead Bubblecut with original price of $2.98 on end flap, watermark
inside lid
• Suggested $275-$295
