Primary
School
The focus this year at the primary school was on student wellbeing, connections, and community. With the year starting with many of our faculty and students displaced worldwide, the primary administrative team made a comprehensive plan for learning to be delivered synchronously. We were fortunate to have highly qualified substitutes and teacher assistants to support and maintain students' individual needs in the classroom while teachers outside of China taught students online within their time zones.
At the beginning of the year, grade level teachers and students were paired by timezones, allowing our students to maintain connections with their classmates, get timely feedback from teachers, and have continuous engagement within a virtual classroom environment. Our Distant Learning students regularly integrated with homeroom classes here on campus for library times, social meet-ups, and learning engagements in the second semester. Teachers also met with their Shekou homeroom classrooms weekly to establish connections with students in China and to help with the transition for when they returned. Students and teachers were thoughtfully integrated back into the school as our community was trickling back into the country.
