Message from the Executive Director:
Hope springs eternal! The weather is improving and more of the population has
obtained COVID-19 vaccinations. People are ready to reclaim their lives and look
forward to getting back to gathering with friends and family and enjoying events
outside of our homes. With that in mind, we are beginning to plan for in-person
meetings at NCDS this fall. Before we look ahead, let’s take a look at what’s been
happening here at the society during the first few months of 2021.
We kicked off the year with our first (and hopefully last) virtual installation
th
ceremony on January 9 . Our Line Officers were installed by NYSDA Executive
Director, Dr. Mark Feldman. Dr. Joe Brofsky presented the 2021 NCDS
Humanitarian Award to Dr. Doug Schildhaus. Look for some screen shots from the event in this issue.
Due to Covid, our annual Give Kids A Smile event at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in February was
cancelled. Instead, Co-Chair Dr. Joe Brofsky distributed oral hygiene products and dental information to
those schools that typically attend our event.
Our CE schedule is jam-packed with a wide array of topics. For now, courses are scheduled as virtual, but
we will be phasing back to in-person CE in the fall. In anticipation of returning to in-person courses, we
are looking at ways to expand the size of our meeting room. An improved configuration of our office
space will allow for more member attendees. Currently, we have been holding many CPR classes in-
person, however due to strict COVID protocols and proper social distancing, classes have been limited to
eight attendees per session. Speaking of CE, we have developed a special program for this year; a five-
part Practice Management Seminar Series is set to start on May 20th. For information on this and all our
courses watch your email or visit our website at www.nassaudental.org.
We are planning a membership recruitment event August 25 at the Crest Hollow Country Club. The
event will explain the value of membership to hospital residents, students and non-members practicing
in Nassau County. We are looking forward to having our General Membership meetings live and in
person once again at the Jericho Terrace on October 5 and November 8. Please join us for a night of
dinner, socializing with colleagues, and an interesting lecture to boot!
The good news continues as our award-winning Women’s Dental Conference – “Scrubs & Stilettos” is
back as a live event! Co-hosted with the Suffolk County Dental Society, it is scheduled for November 12
at a new, bigger venue, The Heritage Club at Bethpage. Designed around the needs and interests of
women dentists, it is truly a unique and special event.
