NCDS Mourns the Loss of a “Favorite Son”

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of NYSDA Executive
Director Mark J. Feldman, DMD. Dr. Feldman was a leader with unparalleled
accomplishments at all levels of organized dentistry. While we will certainly
miss his extraordinary abilities as a leader to meet any issue with calmness
and common sense, we will miss his fellowship and friendship even more.
His passing leaves a great void within the Association and in organized
                                        dentistry.

Dr. Feldman’s dedication to organized dentistry was unsurpassed. Beginning
in the 1980’s, Mark was heavily involved culminating with becoming NCDS

President in 1988. Afterwards he served six years as NYSDA Secretary/
Treasurer and was elected NYSDA President in 2002. He went on to become
the first elected Treasurer of the ADA. He ultimately was elected President
of the ADA in 2008. As a testament to his colleague’s admiration he ran
unopposed for the position. While ADA President he also served as it’s Inter-
im Executive Director. Most people at this stage would have been content
Mark J. Feldman, DMD to kick back, but not Mark. In 2009 he became Interim Executive Director
of NYSDA, officially becoming it’s Executive Director in 2010 and remaining in that position until his
passing. Mark influenced many of the current leaders in organized dentistry and we all owe him a huge
          debt of gratitude.
Mark’s passion for organized dentistry was only surpassed by his devotion to family. Dr. Feldman is
survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol Schiff Feldman; two sons, Eric Feldman and Sean Feldman; and three
          granddaughters, Hope, Riley, and Mara.
