imp
i am the Back of Beyond
titled above the perspective of all ants spiraling delirious circles
i follow
there is no direction where I am from
space, i linger above the middle
titter over alfalfa sprouts with the Nowheres on my left and right hands
even so, scratching my head in mischevious bewilderment,
less i am than an ambivalent no where muffled, i burst with feverish
mirth
settle on shoulders, the crowns of heads
they shake me off their sleeves
brush me from pleats of pants
but (a malicious delight)
i
s t i c k!
clinging ash gathers on rafters
tugs on ears,
i don’t notice the candle tilt, catch
tips ofa wing, the mosquito’s iridescent jealousy the tablecloth inhales the flame and i flee
suck sap green fingers
back
to the beyond where i live with my feet in directionless air, twitch above my head
blood rushes
hushed blessing, sweet numbing roar
