     Blackberry Dances
        crouched, I wait
breath shallow, eager
disturbed, rabbits bolt in the brambles bated
.......
pattering i look up
i expect rain but the stars
still roll, stroll, Sunday evening in the park
bare feet foxtrot past my tumble of undergrowth e x h a l e my eyes water i am afraid to blink she greets
the moon bowing low before resuming her step her white nightgown froths around her calves
i stare i swear it swirls of its own
accord, partnering seamlessly with scraped
knees
i watch as she bends, kisses dew from blackberry leaves
hair curling in tentative question
i open my mouth to answer and realize
my language holds no words only my knuckles mindlessly brushing my cheek
