The Maltese Cross is a symbol of protection. The firefighters who wear the
cross are willing to lay down their lives to save their brothers-in-arms, and
their fellow man.
The Maltese Cross is the symbol of a hero - a firefighter’s badge of honor,
signifying that he/she works in courage - a ladder rung away from death.
Still Standing
Blinding smoke and searing heat,
twisted steel and cracked concrete,
A tragedy of untold stories
of men and women in silent glory.
They knew the dangers, they took a chance,
they donned their gear and made their stance,
They stood between a life and death,
in smoke so thick it would take your breath,
With heroic deeds and efforts demanding,
their lives were lost but their spirits are standing.
We must not fail or forget their plight
so remember our fallen, continue their fight.
