ARSON & EXPLOSIVES BUREAU
The Arson & Explosives Bureau conducts investigations of fire scenes to
determine origin and cause and conducts criminal investigations directed toward
arrest and prosecution.
The Bureau is comprised of a Special Agent in Charge, ten Special Agents, one

The Special Agents are trained Law Enforcement Officers, have received training
in arson investigation, and are trained Bomb Technicians having statewide
responsibility for the investigation of bombings and other explosive devices
and bomb threats. They are responsible for inspecting and licensing explosive
storage facilities and investigating blasting complaints. They conduct arson and
explosive recognition classes for firefighters and law enforcement personnel.
Special Agents assigned to the State Fire Marshal Division are also members
of the Bomb Squad. They must attend a six week Hazardous Device School in
Huntsville, Alabama, taught by the FBI. The State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad
responds to nearly 700 fire cases and over 130 incidents per year involving the
