FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU
FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU
The Fire Prevention Bureau’s main objective is to prevent fires before they start in order
to minimize potential life and property loss. This is achieved through code enforcement
and various educational events and activities.
The Bureau is comprised of a Special Agent in Charge, sixteen Fire Inspectors, and one
Clerical Support Staff.
Fire Prevention Inspectors are trained law enforcement officers, are certified as Federal
Healthcare Surveyors through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS),
and have received training in the Life Safety Code, inspections, flammable liquids and
gases, building codes and building construction.
Fire Inspectors are responsible for the inspection of health care facilities, schools, prisons,
daycares, flammable liquid installations, and public buildings to ensure compliance with fire
codes. They also inspect and investigate building complaints that come to the office.
“There is nothing more noble than a person’s devotion to prevent the ravaging effects of fire.”
