CHINESE HSK
OVERVIEW The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) course at Millfield is designed exclusively for
non-native learners.
The HSK is a globally recognised qualification, valued by both universities and
professional bodies. It offers students a lifelong learning experience through its
sophisticated online platforms.
Students choose the HSK course as a fourth subject, taught on a reduced timetable
of three periods per week.
The aim is for students to sit the Level 4 examination at the end of the Lower Sixth
and the Level 5 examination at the end of the Upper Sixth.
The speaking examination is separate and optional. The writing component is
completed by typing rather than handwriting, and all tests are taken on site at
Millfield using a PC.
Currently, the HSK does not carry UCAS tariff points.
APPROACH Students will have individual accounts to access both the course content and a set
of mock practice papers. These platforms are multimedia, interactive, and highly
sophisticated, supporting independent learning, practice, and assessment. Teachers
will provide the necessary guidance and tuition, including feedback and support in
answering questions. We aim to instil curiosity, passion, cultural awareness, and
strong independent learning habits in our students.
With annual Confucius Classroom funding and teacher support, we offer a wide
range of regular cultural activities. These include a two-day Chinese Food Festival,
during which students prepare and taste authentic Chinese dishes, as well as
celebrations of three major traditional festivals. Activities include tasting festive
foods, making lanterns, racing paper dragon boats, and a visit to London during the
Chinese New Year period. The resumption of our annual study trip to China is also
part of our future plans.
