Will Pretexting Be A Thing Of The Past?

The FCC has recently released a mandate in reference to pretexting and the phone companies guidelines to implement
caller ID to combat spoofed phone calls. Pretexting has been an essential tool used by private investigators to obtain
information from someone about something.

Eight charged in alleged Chinese plot to coerce family to return from US

A private investigator from NJ was arrested for Spying on an individual for the Chinese Government. The Investigator
from NJ was accused of surveilling and harassing a subject in in Queens, NY. It was not disclosed if the investigator knew
he was in fact working for the Chinese Government, but this is a reminder of really understanding who your client is and
what they are asking you to do.
Eight people have been charged with conspiring to work on behalf of China’s government in a plot to coerce a Chinese
family in the US to return to their home country to face charges. Five of the individuals charged, including an American
private investigator, were arrested on Wednesday in New Jersey, New York and California. The rest are believed to be in
China, top justice department officials said in a news conference.
