CFDIs are already trained and skilled as criminal defense investigators – from witness locates to
backgrounds, and sexual assault and battery to death penalty cases. Death investigation also has
specialized training and skills, as well as specific areas of expertise. Some areas of skills that are common in
death, and SBI, cases include:
▪ Skilled Party and Witness Interviews
▪ Forensic Photography (GPS encoded/mapped) and Videography
▪ Alternate Light Sources (including photography)
▪ Records and Reports Review with Experienced Analysis
▪ Statement Analysis and Deconstruction
▪ Experienced Autopsy Procedures and Reports Consultation
▪ Medical Records ~ Injuries and Causation
▪ Knowledgeable Evidence Collection and Analysis
▪ Working relationships with specialized forensic experts
As noted, CFDIs already hold skills and training as criminal defense investigators, and now have advanced
training in death / SBI investigation requiring specific areas of expertise. Death / SBI investigation also
requires advanced knowledge or skills of multiple experts, particularly forensic experts in a multi-faceted
team approach. These include:
▪ Forensic Pathologist
▪ Forensic Crime Scene Investigator
▪ Forensic Criminalist
▪ Forensic Computer and Cell Phone Examiner
▪ Forensic Document Examiner
▪ Forensic Psychologists (PhDs) and Psychiatrists (MDs), including Behavioral Analysis
